Kohli orders special drive against overcharging, overloading

SRINAGAR: Minister for Transport, Abdul Gani Kohli on Wednesday directed the officers to take necessary steps for ensuring decongestion of the Srinagar city to facilitate smooth traffic movement. He also directed the concerned authorities to launch a drive against overcharging and overloading.
The minister was addressing officers in a meeting convened to discuss various issues of the traffic department.
The minister stressed upon the officers of the National Highway Authority to speed up the pace of work on Srinagar-Jammu highway as the dilapidated condition of the road is causing immense inconvenience to the commuters. He also called for fast-tracking the leftover work on the national highway.
The minister also called for taking necessary and corrective measures to check the menace of overcharging and overloading. He said a proper mechanism should be put in place to check such malpractices.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner Secretary, Transport Baseer Ahmad Khan, Transport Commissioner, Inspector General of Police Traffic, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Chief Engineer Mechanical, RTO Kashmir, Joint Commissioner Transport, Chief Town Planner, GM National Highway, representatives from SDA and Beacon.
