BILLAWAR : In a meeting of farmers held at Billawar town, the State President of Kisan Sabha, Hari Chand Jalmeria Advocate expressed concern over the loss suffered by the farmers due to uncertain weather conditions during this Kharif season. He said that firstly the monsoon reached this State over twenty days late due to which the major Kharif crops of maize and paddy could not be sown on time. Paddy could not be sown on much of the Aasmani land. Then the crops did not get sufficient water due to scanty rains. As if that was not enough, September first week floods, winds and heavy rains caused havoc. Paddy crops were affected by spread of sand and soil by floods whereas maize crops fell flat on the ground by rains and winds. The farmers living in villages are the worst sufferers of uncertain weather conditions, said Jalmeria.
Jalmeria added that road connectivity in most of the villages is affected. People in the hilly areas of Sadrota, Macchedi, Lohai Malhar, Baggan, Dhannu Parole, Nazote, Kindli etc. are facing shortage of ration and Govt. has failed to come to their rescue.
Later, Jalmeria submitted a memorandum to the State Govt. through the SDM Badnota/Billawar. He was accompanied by Raj Kumar, Tara Mani, Mansa Ram, Dhanna Ram, Sarotu Ram, Tara Singh, Bittu Ram, Bhagat Ram and Vijay Kumari.
