Kishtwar to get airstrip soon: Sunil Sharma

SRINAGAR: Minister of State for Transport, Science and Technology, PWD(R&B) Revenue, RDD, Panchayti Raj, Agricultural Production and YSS, Sunil Kumar Sharma on Friday said that government would construct an airstrip at Chowgan in Kishtwar.
Addressing a public meeting at Chowgan, the Minister said that the airstrip having length of 900 meters and width 20 meters would be constructed near historical Chowgan Ground at an estimated cost of Rs 2.75 crore. He said over 30 kanals of land is being acquired for making the run- way compatible for higher seating capacity Airstrip. He said that the move has been take to fulfill the much awaited demand of the people of the area adding that approval in this regard have been given by the government recently.
The Minister said that Rs 50 lakh would be provided out of Constituency Development fund and MPLAD funds, setting the target to complete the project by end of this financial year.
“The airstrip would prove beneficial to boost the economy of far off areas of the District,” he said.
