Kishtwar, Bhadarwah campuses need special attention: MLC

JAMMU: Asserting that higher education was the key thrust area of present dispensation in the State, MLC Firdous Tak on Monday said that the area needs complete transformation with special focus on job oriented courses.
MLC met Vice Chancellor Jammu University, Prof R.D Sharma to discuss various issues confronting off side campuses in Chenab Valley. Prof Shohab Anayat Malik, Head of Urdu Department, and Director Kishtwar campus was also present in the meeting.
Tak said that the Education Department has witnessed various historic measures during the last more than a year with new experiments being made in school, graduate and higher education level. “The government is keen to transform the education system so as to enable the students to compete not only at national but international level as well”, he said.
He demanded starting Master of Education (MEd) and MA Sociology courses in Kishtwar campus of the University as a large number of students from the area were forced to move outside for these courses. He suggested that the courses can be introduced on self-financing mode relieving the university from any financial burden.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof R.D Sharma gave a patient hearing to the demands and expressed his keenness to establish the off-side campuses as model institutions in the State. He assured that he will process the matter for introduction of some new courses including MEd and MA Sociology in Kishtwar campus from new academic session and directed the Director to moot the formal proposal in this regard.
