Kiryana merchant shot at; assailant arrested
Shoot out at Channi Himmat
JAMMU: A Kiryana merchant was shot at in Channi Himmat area late Sunday evening over pending payment of a plot. The assailant has been arrested and his licensed revolver seized.
Police said, one Parveen Singh alias Pummy (40), son of Kuldeep Singh, resident of Sector 3 Private Lane Channi Himmat fired on kiryana merchant Kapil Gupta alias Kappi (30).
The bullet hit him in his right thigh. Profusely bleeding Kapil was shifted to GMC Hospital while Pummy managed to escape. Police conducted simultaneous raids and late night nabbed him when he was attempting to escape out of the State.
Police has registered an FIR (90/14) under Section 307 CrPC while the doctors attending upon Kappi stated his condition as out of danger.
According to reports, Kappi had sold a shop site to Pummy, half payment of which was being delayed by the purchaser for quite a time. Today, Kappi asked Pummy to clear the pending payment with latter blaming the seller not having closed the window facing his plot. This led to heated altercation which culminated into firing by Pummy at Kappi.
Hearing the revolver shots, the local residents were panicked.
Police team led by SHO Channi Himmat Inspector Aejaz Wani, SDPO Jammu East Dy SP Rafiq Manhas under the supervision of Jammu SSP Uttam Chand conducted the raid and arrested the accused. A revolver and 4 live cartridges have been recovered from his possession.
