Killer bore wells

0 113

Dear Editor,
It is a horrifying truth in this civilised world that over the years India witnessed many children’s death due to the abysmal bore wells. These bore well holes are the killing fields across the nation. It is estimated that thousands of bore wells are daily dug  all over in India by the agencies as well as private persons just to strike the water in the respective areas. Agencies and people dug deep bore wells hoping to get water in many cases where water did not strike they abandon the spot of bore well and move to other place. They do not bother to cover up the well or to properly cap the bore well and result is horrendous. Children fall into open bore wells often while playing due to utter negligence of agencies and people who dug these and leave them without taking necessary safety measures i.e., to cap or to fill the holes. It is estimated that atleast one child dies in India every day due to these uncovered bore wells and man-holes. One can very well understand the gravity of the problem.
According to a report total number of more than 500 to 700 children died after slipping into open bore wells between the years 2010 to 2013. Children get trapped in the bore well between 10 to 40 feet depth in these neglected and abandoned wells. Inspite of repeated accidents happening on regular basis no concrete solution of this problem is visible on ground till now. It seems that administration is totally in slumber over this issue as no stringent laws are in force for the culprits who are digging these holes with utter carelessness and negligence. Then there is also failure of rescue techniques and applications.
One can very well imagine the pain of the parents and relatives of the dear children who get trapped in these bore wells and many lose their precious lives leaving their parents in utter pain and agony for the whole life. It is utmost need of the hour that the administration should think on this issue on priority so that these bore well casualties can be controlled all over India especially areas where there is scarcity of water in the country.
