Khalsa Warriors emerges champion of Senior Hockey Tournament

JAMMU: Khalsa Warriors on Friday outplayed Hiranagar Hockey Club via shootout and won the trophy of Senior Hockey Tournament organised by Hockey J&K under the sponsorship of J&K Sports Council at KK Hakku Stadium, here.
In the final match, both Khalsa Warriors and Hiranagar Hockey Club teams played a beautiful game and both the teams were locked 2-2 during regulation time. Goalkeeper of Khalsa Warriors starred under the bar during the shootout to notch up the win on the trot.
Today’s match was officiated by a technical panel comprising Gurjeet Singh (former International Hockey player & Hockey Coach JK Police), Iqbal Singh (NIS Hockey Coach J&K Police) D. Singh (NIS Hockey Coach), Jagjit Singh (NIS Hockey Coach), Jasprit Singh and Balmeet Singh.
In the closing ceremony, former President Hockey India, Rajinder Singh was the Chief Guest while Daljit Singh (Member Hockey J&K) and Dr Anitipal Singh (Orthopedician) were the Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest congratulated winner as well loser teams.
“Whether you have won a medal or not, you are all winners. In a long run your active and continued participation in sports and athletics would pay you rich dividends in terms of fitness, well-being, and happiness,” he said adding that Sports, particularly team sports, engender purposeful and meaningful social relationships.
“These social interactions with your friends and workmates provide you highly desirable security, belongingness, and ultimately happiness. Therefore, winning or losing in sports is not at all important, but the happiness originating from the participation in sports or athletics is highly cherished trophy,” he added. he also appreciated the efforts of Hockey J&K for playing an important role in keeping youth engaged by organising number of Hockey Tournaments one after another. The Chief Guest also gave away trophy to winner team.
Others present were G.S Bakshi (former Observer Hockey India Commonwealth Games Glasgow Scotland), Ishan Sharma (Treasure hockey J&K), Gurpreet Singh (Vice President Hockey J&K), Tajinder Singh (Resident Secretary Hockey J&K), Supinder Deep Singh Bakshi (General Secretary Hockey J&K), R.P Singh Sarna and Matinderpal Singh (NIS Hockey coach YSS Deptt Poonch) and Advocate Manmohit Singh Kahlon.
