JAMMU: The hunger strike started by the female teachers of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) entered 23rd day on Wednesday.
The teachers are up in arms against the authorities for the regularisation and have threatened to carry on their strike till their long pending demands are met.
“We won’t open any KGBV school in JK unless the department issues orders for our regularisation,” said State President KGBV Teachers’ Forum, Mymoona Khan adding that their protest will be reached at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi soon. The KGBV teachers are waiting for their regularisation from past ten years however the authorities have failed to take any concrete steps to resolve the long pending demand of the aggrieved teachers, she said.
Following the inordinate delay in the regularisation of their services, KGBV teachers started their indefinite hunger strike from 16th February.
“We have been forced to take extreme steps by the higher ups in the department. The authorities are unnecessarily delaying our regularisation,” said Mymoona Khan.
Earlier in December last year, Secretary School Education Department had assured the KGBV teachers that the department was finalising the process of their regularisation, she said adding that nothing has been done till date.
