Kavinder for detachment of civilian area from Cantonment Board

JAMMU: Several deputations from across various sections and areas of Gandhi Nagar Constituency called upon the Speaker Legislative Assembly and MLA Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta at his official residence here on Wednesday.
The deputations included the people from Raipur Satwari, Channi Himmat, Old Satwari, Belicharana who projected their grievances and demands.
Deputations from cantonment area of Raipur Satwari, Belicharana and Old Satwari apprised him about the poor sanitation due to non-availability of adequate Safaikaramcharis along with installation of street lights, repair of old drains and lanes of the interior areas.
It was also brought to his notice that despite launching of Housing For All (HFA) scheme by the Central Government; the benefits are not being extended to the area as it is neither considered as rural and nor as under urban area as it comes under Cantonment Board.
Giving a patient hearing to the people, the Speaker informed that the process for detachment of civilian area from the Cantonment Board for fast tracking the development has already been initiated and as far as the issue of HFA is concerned it has been taken up with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The Speaker said that PWD(R&B), PDD, PHE, Town Drainage, Revenue, JDA and other departments work normally in the Cantt. area but only the department of Jammu Municipal Corporation is required here for improving the sanitation and other facilities in the area.
Meanwhile the deputation from Channi Himmat demanded immediate blacktopping of internal roads of all the sectors including the important links such as Channi-Deeli-Sainik Colony road.
Responding to their demands, the Speaker informed that the tenders for the Deeli and adjoining area have been called by the PWD(R&B) and the estimates for all the internal roads have been prepared and forwarded to the concerned department for early allocation of funds.
