Kathua bags overall trophy in fencing

JAMMU: District Kathua bagged the overall trophy in the three-day 15th State Open Fencing Championship which came to an end with the holding of prize distribution function at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here.
Minister for Sports, Imran Raza Ansari as chief guest, who gave away the title trophies and individual medals to the fencers excelled in different age groups and events. Former Member Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma presided. Earlier, president of the Association, MJ Sharma welcomed the chief guest and other distinguished gathering amidst highlighting the achievements of the game in J&K.
He also highlighted the plights of the fencers while giving details of their achievements at the national and international level. The Minister was informed about popularity of the game in the state with 2000 active fencers and around 300 medals won at the national and international level competitions during all these years under the guidance of State Sports Council coaches, Shotu Lal Sharma and Rachna Jamwal.
General secretary of the Association, Mohinder Kumar Sharma presented vote of thanks.
The event was organized by J&K Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council.
