Kashmiri youth break new ground in sports: Mufti

Jammu: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday praised a baseball player and a cyclist for their achievements and said that youth from Kashmir Valley were continuing to break new ground in sports.
Tahir Shabnum of Srinagar was selected for the ‘Dubai Cup’ India-Pakistan International Baseball Series to be held at Sharjah Stadium in United Arab Emirates.
“Valley baseball player Tahir Shabnum selected for the Dubai Cup. Youth from the (Kashmir) valley continue to break new ground,” she tweeted.
He was selected after participating in trials at Chandigarh and a coaching camp at Patiala organised by the Amateur Baseball Federation of India.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from December 8.
Shabnum has represented the state a number of times in the senior national baseball championships and also represented Kashmir University in All India Inter University Baseball Championship.
In another Twitter post, the chief minister said, “Another great achievement in sports, Bilal Ahmed Dar (is) leading the way.”
Cyclist Bilal Ahmad Dar, a resident of Narbal area of Budgam, bagged four gold medals in the track Under-17 national school games.
He also recently bagged three medals in the National Road Cycling Championship held at Karnataka.
