JAMMU: After facing a tough competition to gain entry inside a prestigious institution, large number of outstation students reporting for admission in NIT Srinagar are facing a tough time once again to complete admission formalities due to prevailing law and order situation.
Ironically, ever since the admission process was started neither the state government authorities nor NIT authorities have bothered to provide safe passage to the students from the airport to NIT campus. In contrast, the state government had organised travel of students from Kashmir valley who appeared in CET entrance exam on Sunday and before this sat for NEET exam.
In the absence of normal traffic plying on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway during the day the majority of candidates are left with no other option but to reach Srinagar by air from different destinations.
Students from Rajasthan,Karnataka, Punjab,Himanchal Pradesh, Delhi study and other states are admitted in different branches in the NIT Srinagar.
But due to prevailing law and order situation almost everyone is facing difficult times. On Tuesday as large number of students arrived at Srinagar airport, who were ferried by local taxi drivers to Dal Lake only.
Beyond Dal Lake the drivers refused to take risk as sporadic incidents of violence were reported from different parts of Kashmir valley.
All those students who arrived in the campus faced numerous difficulties and shared their night mares as they were caught in the stone pelting.
An elderly parent from Janipura area reached NIT campus late Wednesday evening in bad shape. The auto rickshaw in which he was travelling along with his son was targeted by the angry protesters.
The windscreen of the auto was smashed and both the driver and the passengers barely escaped mob fury. Earlier, in the day several students were forced to reach NIT campus via Dal Lake as the road was not cleared.
Inside the campus, the students could hear loud chants of anti-national slogans till late in the evening. Several students told STATE TIMES Correspondent, “the law and order situation is worrisome on ground zero. There is no control over angry protesters and they are ready to hit anyone found coming their way.”
