Kashmir unrest
Dear Editor,
Even as the Prime Minister held talks with the Opposition leaders from Kashmir, fresh clashes broke out in some parts of the Valley . This is a cause for concern and calls for a fresh approach to find a solution to the imbroglio. The all-party meeting convened by the Prime Minister, which was followed by his meeting with the Opposition leaders from Kashmir, has raised some hope to break new ground. But the fact that the Hurriyat wants to find a solution beyond the constitutional framework is a bad signal. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Government seems overawed by the immensity of the problem and has fallen into a state of inertia. If only five per cent of the people are disturbing peace in Kashmir, as claimed by the J and K Chief Minister, what prevents her from isolating these elements and winning over the rest in order to restore normalcy?
It is unfortunate that the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party are not able to work together even in this hour of crisis.
