Kargil coldest place at minus 9.2 degree Celsius
SRINAGAR: Kargil in frontier region of Ladakh was the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir even as the night temperature in most places settled above freezing point.
The night temperature recorded in Kargil town was minus 9.2 degrees Celsius compared to yesterday’s minus 10.5 degrees Celsius, a spokesman of the MeT office said.
The nearby town of Leh, which recorded the season’s coldest night at minus 12.0 degrees Celsius yesterday, witnessed a remarkable improvement with night temperature settling at minus 7.6 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature recorded in summer capital Srinagar was 1.4 degrees Celsius after over a week of sub-zero night temperatures.
Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season yesterday when the mercury dipped to minus 1.4 degrees Celsius.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 1.3 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s minus 2.0 degrees Celsius.
However, the night temperature in Pahalgam and Gulmarg hill resorts remained below freezing point, though showing a remarkable improvement.
While the night temperature at Pahalgam, the base camp for annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir settled at minus 1.3 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s minus 4.4 degrees, Gulmarg, the famous ski resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s minus 1.8 degrees Celsius.
