JAMMU: A large number of traders, prominent citizens under the banner of Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) held a protest against the PWD (R&B), JMC, ERA and the traffic regulating agencies for having failed to solve the traffic problem in the Jammu city.
While addressing the protesters, Sunil Dimple president Jammu West Assembly Movement alleged that PDP- BJP Government has badly failed to solve the traffic problem in Jammu city and to provide basic amenities to the public. Dimple alleged large scale bungling in black topping work of roads in Jammu city. He said that PWD (R&B) engineers are hand in glove with the local MLAs in taking commissions and demanded from the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to hold CBI inquiry into the funds allotted to ERA and PWD for black topping of the Jammu city roads.
Dimple alleged that ERA, NBCC sewerage works during the last ten years have badly damaged the roads of Jammu city and particularly the Jammu West Assembly Constituency.
Dimple alleged that every day the goods of the traders are lifted by JMC officials and the general public is being harassed by pasting penalty Challans on their standing vehicles on the road sides by Traffic Police which in no way will solve the traffic problem as there are no proper parking spots constructed in the Jammu city. The Traffic Police is doing nothing to solve the problems and is only harassing the innocent public by imposing fine in the name of traffic reforms on the standing vehicles.
He alleged the people are badly disappointed with the Mehbooba Mufti Government and the Deputy Chief Minister, as they are not taking any step to solve the worsening traffic problem in entire Jammu city.
Dimple demanded Mehbooba Mufti to start Metro Rail, Mono Rail connecting the Jammu city with adjoining towns of Samba, Bari Brahmna, RS Pura, Akhnoor, Nagrota and other towns to control traffic rush on roads.
He also demanded construction of alternative four way circular road from Amphalla Manda to High Court Janipur, Roop Nagar to Bantalab, Jewal Chowk to Talab Tillo via Bhagwati Nagar and widening of the Jewal Chowk to Purkhu Akhnoor Road to ease traffic problem.
