JAMMU: The senior most Judge of J and K High Court Justice Virender Singh was on Tuesday elevated as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
As per the notification issued by Parveen Garg Joint Secretary Ministry of Law and Justice that in exercise of powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President of India Pranab Mukherjee is pleased to appoint Justice Virender Singh Judge of J and K High Court to be the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.
Born on 7th October, 1954, Justice Virender Singh, after graduating from Government College, Rohtak, completed his Degree of Law from J.V Jain College, Saharanpur. He entered the legal profession in June, 1978.
Singh practiced mostly on Criminal side besides dealing with cases under the Motor Vehicles Act and Hindu Marriage Act. In 1988, he practiced at Rohtak and thereafter Singh remained as Deputy Advocate General, Haryana, firstly from May 1995 to April 1996 and then from July 1996 to January 1999. Later, he was elevated as Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court on 2nd July, 2002. He was transferred to High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and assumed charge of office on 19th April, 2007. He remained as acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir from 2nd April, 2012 to 8th June, 2012. JNF
