JAMMU: Law examinations conducted by the University of Jammu again unfolded the shocking saga of inefficiency and incompetence of the teaching mechanism with just 129 examinees out of 401 passing in the seventh semester of BA LLB-5years course. While a whopping 242 students reappear in the results of Regular/Private Examinations 2023, held in February-March 2024, declared by the University on Wednesday, nine students absented and the result of one student has been shown as a case of disputed eligibility.
Ironically, the results came on a day when the Directorate of Elementary Education in the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh issued notices to 250 Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) from 116 schools where the Class 10 results were less than 25 per cent. If the HP Government can respond to poor results in such a stern way, what about the University of Jammu, claiming to be A-Grade University-Accredited NAAC, where the pass percentage is just 37.25? Reappear accounts for 60.50 per cent, which speaks volumes about the standard and quality of education imparted.
Apart from Dogra Law College and K.C College of Law, the University of Jammu has its own dedicated law college. There has to be a mechanism to monitor the quality of education being imparted in the colleges affiliated to the University. Same holds good for the in-campus law college of the University. The poor results call for a thorough analysis of the teachers appointed in all the three colleges with their academic background. The teachers, as also the management in respect of affiliated colleges besides the higher-ups of the in-camps college cannot shirk their responsibilities for the very poor results. In an era, where excellence remains the target point for every institution, the Jammu law colleges are delivering very poorly.
Some students, on the condition of anonymity stated that the affiliated colleges lack the desired faculties. At the time of inspections, the teachers of high academic background are shown on the rolls but actually that is just to hoodwink the University. For the academic sessions, the academics are just pulled on with the minimum available staff. Same must be true about the faculty in the in-campus college.
The students and their parents have been seeking academic audit of the law colleges across Jammu.
