JU holds academic council meet

JAMMU: The Academic Council of the University of Jammu, which met under the chairmanship of Prof R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu took various important decisions.
Prof. Sharma sought active participation of all the members of the Academic Council on the various issues of academic importance.
Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar JU presented the agenda items for threadbare discussion and decisions on the same thereof.
A total of 40 agenda items were discussed along with the action taken report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council meeting.
The Academic Council endorsed the introduction of the Choice Based Credit System at the Under Graduate Level for the Winter Zone Colleges also from 2017. The B.Voc Degree for recognition as eligibility in all courses where the entry qualification is a Bachelor Degree without specific requirement in a particular discipline was also endorsed alongwith the adoption of an IT Policy of the University which was too endorsed.
The Academic Council also endorsed the adoption of Hindi Literature as a Core Subject at the UG Level and starting of the Honours course in Hindi in the Colleges.
The Academic Council also endorsed the grant of onetime Special Chance to those who have a backlog/s and their chances or time period debars their further appearance.
The Academic Council also endorsed the duties and responsibilities of the Rectors/Directors of the Offsite Campuses. Action taken by the Vice Chancellor in having authorised the adoption and continuation of the syllabi of the various courses was also confirmed during the meeting.
Various other important academic issues of the university and the off-site campuses were also discussed in the Academic Council meeting, which was attended by Prof. Desh Bandhu, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Jigar Mohd, Dean Research Studies, Deans of the various Faculties, Rectors/Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, College Principals and other officials of the University.
Prof. Mahmood Ahmad Khan, Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Kashmir also attended the meeting.
