JU celebrates National Science Day

JAMMU: The P.G. Department of Home Science (Human Development), University of Jammu, on Monday organised a poster making and painting competition on the eve of National Science Day in the premises of J and K Samaj Kalyan School for Hearing Impaired children, Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu.
Every year 28th February, is celebrated as the National Science Day across the country. The programme is envisioned by Department of Science and Technology to trigger science popularization activities throughout the country and to disseminate scientific education about the current issues of science and technology amongst the citizens of the country.
University of Jammu under the office of the Dean Faculty of Science is also celebrating the day by carrying out various scientific activities and open visits to science laboratories by school children. It was in continuation of this that the senior children of the Hearing Impaired School prepared posters on the theme ‘Save environment and Save Earth’. The junior group children also expressed their concern for the environment through paintings. A total of 39 children of the school participated in the activity.
The research scholars and post graduate students of the department displayed posters of some well known scientists of India including Aryabhatta, C.V Raman, Homi J. Bhabha, Vikram Sarabhai and Janaki Ammal.
Speaking on the occasion the Dean Faculty of Science Prof. Rajni Dhingra highlighted the reasons for celebrating the National Science Day and on the need to develop scientific temper among children and youth.
Prof. Neeru Sharma, Head of the Department applauded the effort of the school for special children in preparing the children to meet the challenges of the future.
Dr. Sarika Manhas (Assistant Prof), Activity Coordinator congratulated the participant children for their ideas and conceptualisation. R.L Bhan, Principal of the School interacted with the P.G students and apprised them of the facilities available in the institute for hearing impaired children. He told that this is a unique institute that caters to the needs of such children from the entire state of J&K as well as neighboring states of Himachal, and Punjab.
Also present on the occasion were Dr. Samridhi arora, Dr. Nirojini Bhan, Dr. Charu Mohan from the Department of Home Science; O.P Verma (Senior member), M.D Sharma (Treasurer) and A.K Koul (Manager). Certificates of Participation were also distributed on the occasion.
