JPDA holds seminar on ‘Misuse of Habit Forming Medicines & Way Forward’

JAMMU: A seminar was organized on the topic ‘Misuse of Habit Forming Medicines & Way Forward’ by Jammu Pharmaceutical Distributors Association (JPDA) in Jammu. Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu was the Chief Guest while Lotika Khajuria, State Drugs Controller J&K UT, was the Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Rakesh Gupta, President of the Association apprised the participants that drugs/ medicines under the Schedule H and Narcotics Category were of extreme importance for treatment of diseases like Stress Management / Pain and Post-operative Care. He requested all to cooperate in plugging all loopholes to ensure that the medicines were not misused for addiction and suggested that such medicines should be made available across all Government Hospitals / Sub-Centres and Dispensaries.
State Drugs Controller, Lotika Khajuria explained the various measures taken by the department to curb misuse of these important Medicines. She also apprised all that licenses of those traders have been cancelled, who were found misusing the same. Dy Drugs Controller Mohd Iqbal Palla also spoke and explained as to how these important medicines, which were weapons against diseases, are being misused.
Div Com Jammu, Ramesh Kumar explained at length the alarming figures of the percentage of people misusing these important medicines. He assured that no mercy shall be shown to people involved drug peddling crimes and law shall take its own course. He appreciated the efforts of association for holding a Seminar on such an important subject and hoped that more interactions and debates will be organized.
The other office bearers of association present on the occasion included Ajay Gupta- Sr Vice President, Sudesh Gupta- Vice President, Sanjay Gupta- General Secretary, Amit Sharma -Joint Secretary and Manmeet Singh -Treasurer.
