JAMMU: In an effort to make Jammu garbage-free, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is all set to launch Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) project.
Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Commissioner JMC, Mandeep Kaur informed that 500 volunteers have been registered for the project. She informed that in this regard a survey will be conducted by the registered volunteers which will be flagged from Monday, the 4th of July, 2016.
She informed that the project is being initially launched in one ward which will be replicated in other wards of Jammu city. She maintained that after completing the survey, door-to-door collection of waste will be done by the members of the group trained for the purpose and registered with the corporation. “Source said segregated waste collected will be brought to SLRM sheds by the workers for segregation as (recyclable, organic and non-recyclable items) and packed separately. After segregation these recyclable waste would be sold locally. Organic waste would be treated in cattle dung microbial decomposing process after-laying on an eco-friendly fish tank compositing beds in different layers. Each layer being treated with cattle dung microbial inoculums and covered. This process takes 45-60 days to complete. This cattle dung compositing will increase the temperature and also reduce the volume and original weight to one third (minimum). At the end of the process the whole manure would be sieved and can be used,” the commissioner added. The commissioner appealed to the people of Jammu region to extend full corporation to the volunteers and be a part of ‘Clean Jammu Green Jammu’.
C. Srinivasan, Vellore Project Director and Consultant of SLRM project of Indian Green Services presented a presentation on the whole project.
Joint Commissioner (A), R.S Jamwal, Assistant Commissioner (Rev), Subah Mehta, Health Officer and others JMC officials were also present during the press conference.
