JMC launches de-silting drive in Nanak Nagar

JAMMU: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has deployed rock breaker to clear the Nanak Nagar Nallah, Kunj Vihar Lane, Sector 4 on Tuesday to remove encroachment and de-siliting of canals ahead of rainy season to avoid floods.
The drive was launched by Transport Section of JMC under Swachh Bharat Mission for removing the encroachment on Nallah, so that, the proper desilting of the Nallah under slab can be carried out which otherwise could not be possible neither by men nor by machinery.
The drive began from 1st February to clear Nallahs from slit and up till now approximately 40,000 MTs garbage have been removed to avoid any kind of flash flood during rainy season.
On 9th of July 2015, there was flash flood in this area due to heavy rain and water entered into houses damaging property. The area remained cut off for 2-3 days and there had been water logging up to 6ft. The water overflowing was primarily due to improper desilting which was not carried out timely and due to encroachment on Nallah by RCC Slab of 18″-24″ thickness.

The operation was launched on the directions of Commissioner, JMC headed by CTO JMC under the supervision of R.S Jamwal, Joint Commissioner (A), JMC.
