JMC goes tough against encroachers; demolishes 30 illegal constructions

JAMMU: Intensifying the drive against the unauthorized constructions, the Enforcement staff of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) demolished a number of illegally constructed buildings which have extended their setup beyond approved area and designs.
The demolition operation covered stretches from Amphalla to Rehari to Paloura to Janipur and New Plot. It included some thirty odd structures, which also covered Bikaner Sweets, the famous sweet shop in the Janipur area. The authorities made sure that nothing was left in the way. They clean-sweeped the entire area, removing various stalls erected along roads. Tandoors and other material of various Dhabas were also overthrown. Almost nine generators located outside the showrooms, were also removed.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation initiated action under the provisions of J&K Control of Building Operation Act 1998.
Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Mandeep Kour, however, said the demolition decision was taken following the ruling of the High Court to remove all such illegal constructions in the city.
“We are following the directions of the court and every illegal construction in the city would be removed. All the structures which had become hindrance to the movement of traffic here shall be removed “, the JMC Commissioner said.
Joint Commissioner (Admn) JMC, R.S Jamwal appealed to the general public to refrain from making illegal constructions and get building plans whether commercial or residential approved from Jammu Municipal Corporation otherwise action as admissible under rules leading to demolition or sealing of the buildings will be taken against the violators.
