JMC books traders for selling sub-standard meat

JAMMU: Under the directions of Commissioner JMC, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Joint Commissioner (Admn) R.S Jamwal, the Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr. Jaswant Singh conducted surprise check at meat shops and realized Rs 7,100 as fine from defaulters for selling sub-standard meat.
The drive was conducted at Janipur, New Plot, CPO Chowk, Panjtirthi area of Jammu city.
During the drive, various meat shops were checked and it was found that some of the meat sellers were selling unstamped meat and even some were found selling it by hanging it outside their shops. During the drive a fine to the tune of Rs 7,100 was realised from the defaulters and on spot instructions along with strict warning was given to the meat sellers that not to sell sub-standard/unwholesome meat to the consumers at any cost. Municipal Veterinary Officer appealed to all the meat shopkeepers dealing with meat/chicken products to maintain hygienic environment in and around their shops and make available quality meat to the consumers.
