JKRA honours Asian bronze winner Chain Singh
JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association (JKRA) on Wednesday felicitated the bronze medal winner in the 17th Asian Games in South Korea, Chain Singh on his return to home State.
An Indian Army shooter, Chain Singh hails from Bhalessa in district Doda. Son for a farmer, this ace shooter joined the Indian Army as a Sepoy in 2007.
“It was during training that I expressed my desire to take part in the Army’s talent search event of Young Blood Championship. And, soon I was there in the Army’s Marksmanship Unit (AMU) as a young blood shooter,” Chain disclosed to the young shooters of J and K, who were specially invited for interaction with the new champion.
During the last seven years, Chain Singh has won 21 gold, seven silver and a bronze medal at different national level competitions. He has also excelled at the international events winning one gold and two bronze medals.
Earlier, soon after he landed at Jammu Airport, Chain Singh was received by the members of the JKRA and later honoured in a well attended function in the afternoon.
Patting Chain Singh, President of the Association, ADGP, Dilbag Singh said, “It is a matter of pride that a young man from remote village of Doda has won a medal in the prestigious Asian Games. We are proud of Chain Singh and hoped that the achievement will go a long way in inspiring other youngsters from the state to excel at the international level.”
Prominent among those present were DIG IRP, Vijay Singh Sambyal, SSP, Ahmed Parvez Mirza, SSP, J.S Johar, Colonel Anurag Saksena, K.S Jamwal, Sohan Lal, Pankaj Sharma, V.S Jamwal, Ashok Sharma, Taranjeet Singh Toni, Rajesh Virdhy, Sudhir Kumar and Sharat Chander Singh.
