FIR registered against 33 accused including then Member JKSSB, ex- Medical Officer of BSF, Munshi of Kanachak Police Station, Bengaluru-based private company & beneficiaries

JAMMU/NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) on Friday conducted searches at 30 locations on Friday in connection with alleged irregularities in the selection of police sub-inspectors by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).
The searches were conducted at 28 locations in Jammu and one each in Srinagar and Bengaluru after the registration of an FIR against JKSSB member Narayan Dutt and 32 other accused, including middlemen and candidates.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also named Dr Karnail Singh, a medical officer, Avinash Gupta, the owner of a coaching centre in Akhnoor, and a Bengaluru-based company in the FIR.
Last month, the Jammu and Kashmir administration cancelled the J&K Police Sub-Inspector recruitment following allegations of irregularities and recommended a CBI probe into the selection process.
It was alleged that there were irregularities in the written examination conducted on March 27.
“The results were declared on June 4, 2022. There were allegations regarding malpractices in the examination. The Jammu and Kashmir government had constituted an inquiry committee to look into the same. It was alleged that the accused entered into conspiracy with officials of JKSSB, Bengaluru-based private company, beneficiary candidates and others, and caused gross irregularities in conduct of written examination for the posts of sub-inspectors,” the CBI said in a statement.
The initial inquiry showed that there were “abnormally high percentage” of selected candidates from Jammu, Rajouri and Samba districts.
“Violation of rules by JKSSB was allegedly found in assigning the task of setting question paper to Bengaluru-based private company,” it said.
The accused have been identified as Dr. Karnail Singh, Ex-Medical Officer, BSF Frontier Hqrs, Paloura, Ashok Kumar, ASI, (Munshi of Police Station Kanachak), son of Paras Ram, resident of Choudharwala, Ashwani Kumar, Ex CRPF Official, son of Mela Ram, resident of Kachrial, Avinash Gupta, owner of EDUMAX Classes, Akhnoor, Akshay Kumar, Manager of EDUMAX Classes, son of Darshan Kumar, resident of Shamachak, Akhnoor, Roshan Bral, RET teacher, Narayan Dutt, JKAS, then Member, JKSSB, Bishan Dass, then Under Secretary, JKSSB, Anju Raina, then Section Officer, JKSSB, MeritTrac Services Private Limited, Bengaluru, Edumax Classes Library opposite BSNL Exchange Akhnoor, Sourav Sharma, son of Bhushan Bral (DDC Bhalwal Brahamana), Sunil Kumar Verma, Jai Suriya Sharma, Bandana Sharma, Sourav Bral, Rohit Choudhary, son of Romesh Choudhary, resident of Mattu, Ravi Kumar, Kapil Sharma, Paras Sharma, son of Ashok Kumar, son of Ward Number 4, Jourian, Sumit Sharma, Dheeraj Sharma, son of Darshan Lal, resident of Chak Kirpalpir, Shubham Patyar, Sahil Patyar, Rahul Singh, Mamta Langeh, Rohit Langeh, Rahul Sharma, Tarlok Singh, Sachdev Singh, Anshuman Sharma, Aakash Jalotra, Ankita Sharma, Shubam Padyar, Sahuil Padyar, both sons of Saroop Sharma, resident of Gurha Brahamna, (private persons) and unknown others.
These accused were booked on the allegations of irregularities in written examination for the posts of Sub-Inspectors in the J&K Police held on March 27, 2022, conducted by J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB). Soon after the results were declared and more than four to five siblings of particular families qualified the test. This was the cause of the protests and J&K administration ordered an inquiry.
A committee was set up to probe the alleged irregularities in the written test for sub-Inspector posts in J&K police, which submitted its report.
