JKP organising cycle race in Srinagar
SRINAGAR: As a part of its Civic Action Programme, Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) is organising Cycle Race this month in summer capital. The event would witness a large participation of youth in “Pedal for Kashmir” Cycle Race scheduled to commence from 6th September, 2014.
This was stated by Additional Director General of Police (Armed) J and K, S. M Sahai in a meeting held at Armed Police Headquarters on Tuesday. The meeting was convened to discuss various arrangements put in place for the smooth conduct of national level event in a befitting manner.
Giving the details, Sahai said that the cycle race is expected to be participated by more than 1000 professional cyclists from all over the country including Jammu and Kashmir, representing various educational institutions, NGOs and national level sports bodies and Clubs.
It was decided in the meeting that the cycle race would be started from Police Golf Course, Boulevard at 6:30 AM with three categories viz senior above 19 years, junior boys and girls under 19 years and sub-junior boys and girls under 12 years.
The event will have a free entry and the participants would have to compete in above mentioned categories. It was also decided that cash prizes worth Rs. 5.50 lakh would be distributed among the winners at the prize distribution ceremony. Various management committees under senior nodal officers were constituted for making the event successful.
The meeting also discussed various arrangements with regard to police, security and traffic on the routes, and first aid facilities.
Among others, the meeting was attended by IGP (Armed/IRP), Kashmir, Sunil Kumar, DIG Armed, M. M Sadiq, SSP, Mir Mohammad Choudhary, SSP Traffic, Haseeb-u-Rehman, SSP APCR, Abdul Qadoos, SP Crime, Mir Aftab Ahmed, Medical Superintendent, Police Hospital Srinagar, M.S Koka, all Commandants of Armed/IR and other police officers.
