SRINAGAR: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar, while reviewing the relief work by Jammu and Kashmir Police here on Saturday said that the jawans of JKP have demonstrated valour and dedication towards the suffered people. The task will continue till the normal life is restored in the affected areas.
Giving the details, Rajendra said that the relief and restoration campaign has been started by the Organisation, lending their support to the civil administration and affected people to minimise their hardships. As a part of this campaign medical and relief camps were organised at various places in the flood hit areas. Priority was given to the cleaning of major hospitals in the city including SMHS, GB Pant and JVC which were restored for normal functioning.
The DGP said that the police has been helping civil administration in the distribution of relief material, besides organising relief camps from its own resources.
In this regard relief material was distributed among the flood sufferers at various locations including Sathu Barbar Shah, Naqashpora, Mahjoor Nagar, Singhpora Pattan, Shalina, Iqbal Colony, Sumbal, Pohru, Bemina and Indira Nagar. Free medicines were also distributed among the patients at the medical camps, besides a large number of people treated by the doctors of police hospitals. Eye camp was arranged at JVC hospital in which three patients were transplanted the eyes which were got arranged outside the state. Also various eye patients were treated by the doctors at the camp.
The DGP said that a team of officers at PHQ, headed by ADGP (Headquarters), S.P Vaid is reviewing the pace and progress of the campaign on daily basis.
ADGP (Armed) S.M Sahai, is supervising the ongoing relief activities in different affected areas.
Rajendra reiterated that the organisation would lend its hand to the civil administration in restoration of vital institutions, especially the hospitals and other public installations. He said that after rescue operations, the Organization is braced up in the relief and restoration work to bring normal life on rails.
The DGP lauded the role of jawans of armed police and other wings, who worked round the clock. He said that all ranks of the force have decided to contribute one day salary towards Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, despite they suffered great losses during the floods. He also lauded the valour and dedication of the personnel during the rescue operations, saying that though the police establishments were also engulfed in the floods, they stood by the people for their rescue and relief.
Rajendra assured that the relief and medical camps would be continue in other affected areas. He said that people of the State would find the JKP on forefront for their help in this hour need.
