JAMMU: Alleging malpractices, nepotism, corruption and regional discrimination in the process of selections conducted by SSB, PSC and other recruiting agencies for government jobs, scores of Panthers Party activists led by Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and Yash Paul Kundal State President Young Panthers held a massive protest against regional discrimination in selection process to government services besides seeking abolition of interviews in the recruitment for non-gazetted posts at Exhibition Ground, Jammu today.
Hailing the verdict of SVC which indicated fraudulent selections at the cost of merit and recommended abolition of interviews for Class III and Class IV posts, Harsh regretted that while the interviews for these posts were abolished in rest of the country from 1st January this year, J and K Government remained non-chalant on the issue.
He sought an immediate change in recruitment policy for State Government jobs by abolition of the interview system and making selections on the basis of academic merit itself. He further said that there was no justification for holding interview for the Class-III, Class-IV and ministerial staff posts and the provision of interview in such posts had only increased the scope for manipulation, nepotism and corruption by the vested interests. He said that though the BJP led Govt. at the Centre had announced abolition of interview for all non-gazetted posts but ironically the BJP partnered Govt. in J and K issued a notification mandating oral test (interview) for all such services which was to be held after written test.
Expressing indignation over the recent discriminatory selection against the posts of Assistant Professors in Higher Education Department, Harsh accused BJP for shamefully surrendering itself before the Kashmir centric leadership for the power avarice.
He regretted that despite one of the State Spokesperson of the Saffron Party who strongly criticised and asked his MLAs and ministers to take an appropriate action against the discrimination doled out to the candidates of Jammu region in the selections made by the PSC against the posts of Assistant Professors in the aforesaid department, nothing had been done to address the grievances of the aspirants. While drawing the attention of the State Government towards the prejudiced selections, Singh revealed that in Open Category nine candidates from Jammu region were selected against 34 in History, seven candidates were selected against total of 26 in Physics, 12 candidates were selected in Mathematics against 25 and nine candidates in Psychology out of 27.
He asked the sleeping BJP to ponder over the grave concern of the Jammu youth by vociferously raking up the discriminatory issue and notify the abolition of the interviews for the non-gazetted posts on the analogy of other states without delay or else get ready to face the music of the public fury.
