JKHCBAJ visits flood affected areas; urges rehabilitation, loss assessment, compensation for victims

JAMMU: The office bearers of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu (JKHCBAJ), visited flood affected areas of Jammu to take stock of the grave situation caused by the recent flash floods. The floods have led to extensive damage to property, livelihoods, and have left countless families in distress, including members of the legal fraternity. During the visit, President K. Nirmal Kotwal noted that many advocates have suffered severe losses to their homes, offices, and personal belongings. This tragedy has not only disrupted their professional commitments but has also inflicted immense financial and emotional strain. Similarly, large sections of the local population have faced irreparable harm and are now in urgent need of assistance.
Expressing deep concern over the suffering of the people, JKHCBAJ has made the following earnest appeals to the Administration of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir: Immediate assessment of damage, to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the losses suffered by citizens, including advocates and their families. Fair compensation policy, to frame and implement a transparent compensation mechanism to ensure that affected individuals receive just relief for their losses. Rehabilitation Measures to provide timely and effective relief packages to restore the lives and livelihoods of those impacted by this natural calamity.
Other office bearers of the association including Vice President Baldev Singh, General Secretary Pardeep Majotra, Joint Secretary Anshu Mahajan and Treasurer Rahul Aggarwal emphasized that swift action from the Administration is crucial to alleviate the suffering of the affected people and restore normalcy at the earliest. JKHCBAJ stands in solidarity with all flood victims and reaffirms its commitment to extend every possible support during this challenging time.
