J&K Thang-Ta contingent calls on Chief Minister

JAMMU: A contingent of Thang-Ta players of the State called on the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti here on Wednesday.
The contingent is participating in the national Thang-Ta championship being held at Hyderabad from 26th to 29th January.
The Chief Minister extended her good wishes to the members of the contingent and hoped that it would repeat the performance J and K has been known for in the game over the years.
Mehbooba asked the concerned departments to provide all the logistic facilities to the young players of the game at district headquarters and make all arrangements for sending more and more players to such camps and championships. She assured the players all help and assistance so that they can concentrate on their performance and bring laurels to the State.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister was informed that Thang-Ta has so far remained the highest medal winning game for the State and its players have won many national titles and even some medals at the international level.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari; Secretary, J and K State Sports Council, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, representatives of J and K Thang-Ta Association and coaches were present on the occasion. Some of the members of the contingent also displayed some items of the game on the occasion.
A traditional martial art of Manipur, Thang-Ta has been incorporated as a sport in the country and Jammu and Kashmir has been consistently showing an excellent performance in the game.
