J&K team leaves for Climbing meet at Delhi

JAMMU: A seven-member team of Tawi Trekkers J&K, including two officials, left on Friday for Delhi to participate in the two-day 17th National Open Sport Climbing Competition being organised by Hiking Club of St Stephen’s College, Delhi in collaboration with Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), North Zone from April 6.
The team comprised of three boys, Aradhya Manhas, Ankush Singh, Rudhra Rajput in the Junior boys category and two girls, Shivani Charak in open and Ayaana Bhagat in Junior group who shall participate in Lead as well as Speed competitions.
“The almost new look team is a blend of experience and fresh talent. Whereas Shivani Charak is a renowned climber of the country who has won innumerable medals at the national level and a medal at the international level also, all other climbers are very talented but lack exposure at the national level. However, the team is expected to perform well,” informed president of the Club, Shwetica Khajuria.
Whereas Shilpa Charak, an international sport climber and joint secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K shall be the manager, Arun Deep Singh, a powerful climber who is not fully fit to participate in the competition, has been named team manager.
Earlier, before their departure for Delhi, the team members called on Shawetica Khajuria and Sonam Sidharth, president and general secretary respectively of Tawi Trekkers J&K, who assured them all possible help for competing in future competitions. They wished the team a grand success in the national competition.
