Ansa Chisti emerged as a shining star by clinching the gold medal in the 56kg weight category, while Ayers Chisti and Riya Chib secured bronze medals in the 52kg and 65kg categories, respectively.
Their accomplishments underscore the growing prominence of J&K athletes on the national stage.
The trio had qualified for the championship during the Khelo India Zonal League Wushu Championship held earlier in Patiala. Ayers Chisti, who is also a silver medalist in the National Games, faced a setback as she suffered a minor foot fracture during one of her bouts. Despite the injury, her resilience and determination shone through as she secured the bronze medal.
Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, congratulated the medalists and assured her continued support for women athletes. She emphasized her commitment to providing top-notch facilities to ensure that the athletes can excel on both national and international platforms.
Vijay Saraf (President), Ranjeet Kalra (BP), and Bhavneet (General Secretary), extended their heartfelt congratulations to the medalists.
They also expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) for launching initiatives like the Khelo India scheme, which has been instrumental in empowering women athletes across the country. Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee also lauded the athletes’ achievements. He took the opportunity to appeal to the government for the establishment of a dedicated Wushu academy in Jammu & Kashmir, emphasizing its potential to produce more medalists in Asian Games and World Championships in the future.
