J&K Govt must come clean on army’s involvement in Handwara episode

BLUNT BUTCHER
JAMMU: In anticipation of the findings of the so-called probe panels, all and sundry in the PDP and BJP besides the police hierarchy are patting their backs for bringing normalcy in Kashmir, which got shattered after wild allegations by Pakistani agents against the army.
Though the young girl from Handwara blasted false propaganda of being molested by an army man, the BJP partnered and PDP-led government has virtually held the armed forces responsible for the alleged criminal act by getting the bunker at main chowk in Handwara vacated. This seems to be a huge victory of those who want to erase footprints of the army from civilian areas of the strife-torn Valley. Believe a local news agency, the possession of the bunker-bone of contention between protagonists of the terror regime and those accredited the security of nation-stands dismantled. If true, it is a darkest day for the great Indian nation. Today it may be a bunker; tomorrow it will be cleansing the Valley from the presence of armed forces.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has said that the guilty in Handwara case will be punished. If so, where are the perpetrators who escalated the situation by making false accusations against the army? Given the statement of the girl, involved in the controversy, which police boasted and stated to have been recorded before the designated Magistrate, the boys who created the ugly episode should have been booked and arrested. Instead, the bunker seems to have been removed. Obviously, this is a major victory for the enemies of nation.
In this sordid drama, BJP needs to explain how it became party in the decision with regard to removing the bunker. By doing so, haven’t the Centre and the State Government acknowledged the army’s involvement in the molestation? Be it as is being given out, why doesn’t the Chief Minister and her Deputy come clean over the acquisitions made against the army.
A BJP minister in Narendra Modi Government at the Centre exudes confidence over the tackling of situation by the PDP-BJP Government in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite representing a Jammu based parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha, Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in PMO is naïve about the happenings in the Valley, be that the provocative incidents in NIT Srinagar or false acquisition against the army in Handwara. Had he been well versed with the entire scenario, especially in the wake of reimposing curfew in volatile North Kashmir Kupwara district, he would have thought twice before holding out assurances. Appreciating the State Government for appropriate handling of the situation, he said, “Government is capable of dealing with any kind of situation and therefore I want to reassure the people of Jammu and Kashmir not to (sic) get panicky over the issue. The state government has taken cognizance of everything so they will be able to handle it and control the situation to bring back normalcy. They have also learnt from the sequence of last incidents that has happened in last two to three days”. Perhaps he is not aware about the compromises being made to appease anti-national constituency in the Valley. The State Government does not appreciate the sensitivity of the matter. It should have come out immediately after dissemination of the information about handing over of Handwara army bunker to social forestry and tourism departments, to verify the facts. On the one side, the government is pretending to be fighting against rumour mongers while on the other hand information is being withheld from the people. This is deception and ostrich like approach.
Jammu and Kashmir Police has also seemingly lost its direction on Handwara turf. Instead of making any headway in finding out the truth, its chief is boasting of bringing normalcy. The grim situation belies his over-statements. The Kashmir situation is alarming in the sense that vested interests together with anti-national elements are getting reorganized after the initial setback of the Handwara girl turning their apple cart by stating truth. In case they succeed, the coming days would be crucial in the Valley, especially as the Amarnath yatra season is on the anvil.
If so confident about handling the latest Kashmir turmoil, with the DGP please let people know as to who perpetrated the situation. Where are the culprits? He will have to answer.
