J&K Boys upset title-holder TN in group tie

JAMMU: Host J&K boys team created history by defeating last year champion Tamil Nadu on the third day of the week long 48th Junior National Volleyball Championship, organized by Volleyball Association of J&K in collaboration with J&K Sports Council under the auspices of Volleyball Federation of India, at MA Stadium, here on Wednesday.
J&K Boys team outplayed Tamil Nadu by 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-22).
In late last night flood light match, the host team mesmerized the audience by defeating Tamil Nadu in three straight sets. Mannat Choudhary, Harron and Musharaf dominated the show by exhibiting their superb skills.
It is worth mentioning that Mannat, an international volleyball player from border area of R.S Pura, Jammu district Captain of J&K team due to his exposure at International level in volleyball, representing Indian Volleyball Team recently in AVC Cup held at Bangkok, Thailand was the star attraction of the match.
Keeping in view the superb display of J&K boys team, President Volleyball Association of J&K Sidharth Daluja, Associate Joint Secretary Volleyball Federation of India announced a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 for the boys team and Rs. 10000 for coaches for their magnificent performance.
Naresh Kumar and Ramiz Tariq are Coach and Assistant Coach of the J&K boys team.
S.K Jena, General Manager Finance, Sanaka Luha General Manager Civil from National Hydro-electric Power Corporation (NHPC) were dignitaries in today’s events and were honoured on behalf of Special Organizing Committee Kuldip Magotra, Organizing Secretary and other office bearers of Volleyball Association of J&K on the occasion.
The dignitaries were also introduced with Jharkhand and Maharashtra boys volleyball teams.
Col. Gurbaksh Singh (Rtd.) son of soil, Volleyball stalwart, G.E Sridharan Arjuna/Dronacharya Awardee, K. Vasvan Assistant Secretary Volleyball Federation of India and number of international volleyball coaches and referees were also present on the occasion.
The matches are being played on league-cum-knock-out basis which are likely to be concluded on 17-11-2022 after that knock-out matches would commence in the championship.
