JE acquitted in trap case

JAMMU: Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu Sanjay Dhar on Monday acquitted Parshotam Lal Sharma who was caught red-handed by the Vigilance Organization Jammu while accepting bribe, the organization has failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
According to FIR No 1/2011 one Jagbandhan Singh has been allotted a contract for construction of Shamshan Ghat Marata under the direction of MP Madan Lal Sharma in 2007. The contractor asked the JE to process the bill for this he demanded Rs 6,000 as bribe. On this, the VOJ registered a case under section 5(2) J and K PC Act 2006 read with section 161 RPC and constituted a trap team which laid trap and caught red-handed the said JE while demanding and accepting the bribe money.
On Monday, Inspector Manjeet Singh of VOJ who was Investigating officer of the case moved an application seeking five day police custody. The Court after perusing the CD File produced by CPO VOJ and the medical record of the accused disallowed the prayer of the VOJ. The accused has been booked in case after being caught red-handed along with the bribe amount of Rs 6000, he has been arrested on 20th January, 2011. JNF
