JDA quarters to be allotted to genuine applicants: Dy CM

SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh on Saturday said that government would ensure that Jammu Development Authority (JDA) quarters are allotted to genuine applicants only.
Replying to supplementaries raised by some members in the Legislative Assembly, the Deputy Chief Minister said that government would examine the list of allotments made by JDA and would ensure that the genuine applicants were given the accommodations. The Deputy Chief Minister said that JDA has constructed 150 dwelling units for providing shelter to slum dwellers, houseless persons at Rajeev Nagar in 2005 under Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojna (VAMBAY). He informed that 36 dwelling units constructed at Rajeev Nagar have been allotted to 36 persons, while as the remaining 114 dwelling units have also been occupied by the persons who’s Jhuggis were demolished.
Replying to the main question by Sat Paul Sharma, the Deputy Chief Minister said, under VAMBAY scheme, the beneficiaries who were Below Poverty Line and whose jhuggies were demolished were provided dwelling units against a rent of Rs 150 per month.
The Deputy Chief Minister further informed said that none of the occupants have furnished Permanent Resident Certificates (PRC) till date. He said that the Government has directed the JDA authorities to look into the matter and ask them for furnishing PRCs at the earliest.
