JAMMU: Continuing with the aim regarding promotion of Vascular surgery in Jammu region Jammu Vascular Society organized a scientific session today on ever increasing clinical problem of thrombosis/clots in patients commemorating the World Thrombosis Day.
The meeting was attended by the members of the Jammu Vascular Society and invited distinguished faculty and focused on presentation and discussion regarding a very important clinical condition of Pulmonary Embolism a dreaded complication of Venous Thrombosis (VTE) with ways and means of early diagnosis, management and indication regarding newer techniques of interventions.
Dr Mohan Lal, Senior Cardiologist, was the moderator for the session. Members of the Jammu Vascular Society, Dr Noor Ali, Dr Ishtayak Ahmad Mir, Dr Rahul Gupta (Pulmonologist), Dr Mohit Arora, Dr Vivek Gandotra, Dr Javed Bandey, Dr Rouf Gul, Dr Bhumika Gupta, Dr Anil Sharma, Dr Nadeem along with invited guests and residents participated in the scientific session.
Dr Tarun Grover, Director Vascular surgery Medanta-the Medicity Gurgaon presented the keynote lecture on “Pulmoanry embolism Prevention and Response actions” highlighting the need of a team comprising of Intensivists, CT Vascular surgeons, Cardiologists Pulmonologist and Critical care specialist for efficient management of this dreaded condition.
He showcased the new technology of systems /devices/ thrombectomy systems for treating Pulmonary embolism which are minimally invasive and cut down the incidence of risk during surgical interventions.
Dr Bhumika Gupta presented the management of DVT and current status of Newer Oral anticoagulants(NOACS) for the management of VTE and PAD The session was followed by discussion about management of these.
Convenor of the Society, Dr Arvind Kohli thanked all panelists, presenters and participants for their views in the meeting. He said that it was to bring to attention that we should have eyes open to thrombosis which is a silent killer and 1 in 4 people worldwide are dying from conditions caused by thrombosis.
Hence its important to prevent thrombosis by following certain heatlh related tips, like walking a lot and keeping one self hydrated maintaining healthy weight and avoiding prolonged immobility Patients with high risk of developing thrombosis like blood thickening (altered Rheology) should seek early diagnosis of this serious condition and subsequent management, he added.
“There has been rapid advances in management of thrombosis with latest modalities of diagnostic modalities and medicines like Newer oral anticoagulants which are effective and patient friendly. Further there is ever increasing development in field of vascular interventions like mechanical thrombectomy (Penumbra Lightening and Angiojet) which are efficient Clot Busters which the consultants should use judiciously to take care of clot/thrombus at earliest to prevent complications ,danger to life and to improve the quality of life and prevent the patient going into morbidity,” he added.
Dr Kohli thanked Bayers for supporting this academic session.
