JAMMU: Jammu on Monday recorded season’s another hottest day at maximum 42.9 degree Celsius while monsoon may hit Jammu and Kashmir in the first week of July.
The winter capital on Monday witnessed another hottest day with maximum 42.9 degree Celsius while the minimum was 30.8 degree Celsius, a Met official here said.
“The mercury will further soar in the coming days,” he added.
The weatherman however, predicted light rain and thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures to be around 38°C and 26 °C respectively.
However, heat wave gripped the region with soaring temperature and forced residents to stay indoors.
“Temperature will keep fluctuating between 40 degrees to 45 degrees maximum but showers will also lash in Jammu with thunderstorm,” Sonam Lotus, Director, MeT said.
He said that monsoon will also hit the State in the first week of July thus giving respite to people from hot weather conditions.
Jammu and Kashmir Government has already closed schools for summer vacations from May 29 to July 17. Meanwhile, doctors have advised elders and children to have lot of water intake and cover their face and body while riding two wheelers.
Famous Ranbir Canal and River Chenab witnessed heavy rush of visitors as they were seen dipping into the chilled water to beat the heat.
The hill stations like Patnitop, Nathatop, Sanasar, Mantalai, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar are witnessing heavy rush of visitors in view of rising temperature.
