Jammu Mayor reiterates functions of JMC, stresses for choosing upright persons

JAMMU: Mayor Jammu, Rajinder Sharma has reiterated four main functions of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and said that all of these have been accomplished perfectly to the utmost satisfaction of the people of Jammu.
Addressing a gathering during inauguration of developmental works with Gurmeet Kour Randhawa, JMC Councillor involving construction of deep drains and bridges over them in Ward number 69 at Sainik Colony area which shall be completed at an expenditure of Rs. 44 lakh, the Mayor said that the very first function of JMC is to ensure sanitation and for that door-to-door garbage collection using autos has changed the very look of Jammu.
“Now garbage dumps have become rare in Jammu due to this service,” he said.
The Mayor said that second function of JMC is to lit streets and for that over 90,000 street lights have been installed in the city while the third function of the urban local body remains development of lanes-drains and roads and for that what used to be spent earlier in all the 75 Wards is now being spent on a single Ward.
He further said that the fourth function of JMC is to ensure proper water supply.
“This summer season there was good water supply due to which almost no protest was witnessed though some shortcomings might be there which we are working to overcome,” he continued.
Sharma said that in an unprecedented move developmental works started in the month of July itself for the first time else it used to be in the month of November-December earlier.
“Moreover now there is availability of concerned officers of JMC from 9 am to 11 pm which has made a change in the work culture of JMC. Even the officers who leave their offices by 4 pm keep attending phone of public in case of any grievance,” he said.
The Mayor said that the public should now remember who were the people who remained listening their grievances in the last 5 years, who helped them during COVID, provided them vaccination, medicines, domicile certificates, Ayushman Cards and helped masses when even their blood relations refused to help them.
“Now it is the time for the public to take a decision if for future of Jammu they want to promote upright and hard working people or give priority to the opportunist people who were nowhere in COVID pandemic,” he maintained adding, “Such opportunist lots only other show faces at the time of polls and remain away when the public is in tough times.”
The Mayor said that it is a good development for the people of Jammu that the institution of JMC has now been empowered to a large extent for the public and it was the vision of PM Modi to have democracy at grass root level and which is now visible on the ground here.
“In smart city project Rs. 430 crore for development is going to change the very outlook of Jammu and this is a welcoming step,” he said.
Capt Ajit Singh, Capt Pyar Singh Bhatti, Ajay Singh, Charanjit Singh, Harnam Singh, Babli, Pooja, Shanam and others were also present on the occasion.
