Jammu lady cop figures among India’s top 10 bravehearts

JAMMU: Jammu’s lady police officer has achieved a unique distinction of being among the top 10 braveheart women officers in India.
Featuring in cover story of a web portal, Inspector Shakti Sharma, currently posted as SHO in Jammu’s City Chowk Police Station, Jammu is the only lady officer from North India.
“Since women police officer’s job is doubly difficult as they not only have to fight the usual crime but also the patriarchal mindset of their colleagues and a glass ceiling that is supposed to be almost unbreakable. In a fight against the deep mindset for women in India that women cannot be good law enforcers, Inspector Shakti Sharma, the daring cop of Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu province has proved the narrow mindset of society wrong by figuring in top 10 braveheart women across India”, the report appearing in web portal maintained.
Inspector Shakti Sharma- who was awarded international female peacekeeper award by the United Nations is among the top 10 female officers in India. Known for her good policing, Inspector Shakti Sharma from Jammu and Kashmir made a difference by improving the image of women police officers. She also helped in bringing down the instances of crime against women and general gender-based violence.
The other women officers in top 10 list include Usha Kiran – first woman police officer in CRPF; Subashini Sankaran – first woman police officer in charge of the security of any CM in India, Meera Borwankar – the first woman police officer to head the crime branch, Sonia Narang – DIG in CID; Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya – first woman to be promoted to the level of Director General of Police (DGP), Sanjukta Parashar – the first and only IPS officer from Assam who fought against the Bodo militants; Manzil Saini – Lucknow’s first woman police chief, Archana Ramasundram – first woman police officer to head the paramilitary forces.
