Jammu Kings emerges champions in JHPVL

SAMBA: Jammu Kings emerged as champions in one-month long Jagruk Hindustani Premier Volleyball league -2016 (JHPVL), organised under the aegis of Headquarters Western Command, which concluded here on Thursday.
In the fiercely contested final match Jammu Kings beat BD Bari Jaguars. Arun Singh playing for Jammu Kings turned out to be the player of the series. The winning team apart from lifting a gold plated trophy bagged cash prize of Rs. 30,000 whereas the runners up team was awarded a Silver Plated trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
The tournament was aimed at maximum participation of volleyball players from border areas of Jammu, Samba and Kathua Districts in addition to perception management of local youth, reorganization of alert/vigilant populace of the border areas and better coordination and enhanced ties between populations of these regions and the Indian Army.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Choudhary, VC Kissan Welfare Board, D.S Chib, MLA Samba, Davender Kumar Manyal, were the Guests of Honour on the occasion.
Sham Choudhary while addressing the gathering said that efforts are underway to provide conducive environment to channelise energy of youth towards nation building.
Lieutenant General K.J Singh, Army Commander, Western Command and Lieutenant General Ashok Ambre, General Officer Commanding, Rising Star Corps were also present for the final match.
Addressing a large gathering, the Army Commander complimented both the teams for putting up a
spirited performance in the final match. He urged the players to continue to excel in the game. He also complimented the people of Samba for having countered the menace of terrorism for so many years and acknowledged their contribution toward National Security.
