JAMMU: “With the sound of gushing water, aroma of pine trees, the vibrancy of thought, rise of azaan and an unfathomable calling, Jammu & Kashmir is truly the heaven on this Earth”. With this opening statement, Master Anshul alongwith his team mates from Grade IX B presented an informative Morning Assembly on the topic “Geographical features of Jammu & Kashmir”.
Quoting the Persian poet Firdous on the enchanting natural wealth of J&K, Rishita said, “If there is a paradise on the planet Earth, it is here in Kashmir”. This land is a great combination of mighty splendors of mountains, lofty glades and forests. J&K consists of two divisions – Jammu and Kashmir Valley. The climate of the UT ranges from the burning and scorching heat of the plains of Jammu to the snow capped mountains of Kashmir”.
“The most productive soils of the state found are loamy soil, Hill soil and alluvial soil. 60 to 70% of forest area is confined to Kashmir only which has deciduous vegetation. The Chinar, Poplar, deodar, Pine, Mulberry, Walnut and other fruits trees grow throughout the valley. The UT of J&K has a diverse variety of flora and fauna. The snow leopard, brown Bear, Himalayan Black Bear, Hangul, Red Fox, Marthor, Musk Dear etc. are found in the region”, added Avril.
“J&K has many lakes, rivers and glaciers. Significant rivers that flow through J&K are Jhelum, Chenab, Indus and Tawi. Major lakes include Manasbal Lake, Dal Lake, Wular Lake, Nageen lake, Pangong lake and many many more. J&K is indeed the Crown of the nation, surrounded by the high mountains of the world, a land of immense natural beauty rich in soil and forest resources full of wild life, rivers and lakes with rich agricultural and climate”, further added Navya.
Spreading the flavor of Dogri, another brilliant debator Nimish from the class recited a poem in Dogri, which enthralled the audience with its rich content and expression:
Udti Udti Aayi Chidee,
Poorji Jammu Shair
Khand Mithhe Log Itte,
Na Jhagda Na Bair.
Tawi Jaiye Paani Pitta,
Dhote Apne Pair;
Bawe Jaiye Mathha Tekya,
Parshhad Aali Barfi Laggi Badi Shail…
“To a scholar, it’s home to rich folklore and ancient manuscripts; to an artist, a canvas painted with enchanting rainbows; to a geologist, a lifetime wealth of explorations; to students of Culture, the meeting ground of various races & civilizations; and most of all, a tiny sliver of hope that heaven might just exist on Earth after all, for it is ours & only oursvery own to behold and witness: Jammu & Kashmir”, he concluded.
Principal JKPS Kunjwani Rajesh Rathore lauded the commendable endeavours of students. He appealed the audience to amass the wealth of knowledge regarding the UT of J&K. How ironical is the fact that humans keep collecting information of the whole world but remain oblivious of their surroundings. He stated, “Dear students, keep collecting information regarding its varies physical features, rivers, lakes, mountain peaks, rich flora & fauna, assembly constituencies after the delimitation process, our state animal, state bird, state tree, state flower, folk songs, folk dances & various other cultural riches”. He appealed teachers “to help children know more about Jammu & Kashmir- the Crowning Glory of India: the Paradise on the planet Earth”.
