Jammu fencer tops in NIS

JAMMU: A young girl from Jammu and Kashmir has topped in her diploma course in the discipline of Fencing from National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala in Punjab.
Shreya Chib, 21, a native of Jammu, has made the State proud by securing grade ‘A’ thereby topped in the 10-month long professional diploma course. She shall also undergo two months internship at the same institution, NIS Patiala.
Brought up in a family having sports background, Shreya after completing professional course wants to train upcoming fencers to further uplift the sport of fencing in the State.
”I was the youngest among 10 candidates who appeared for the professional course in fencing and securing top position was something really satisfying. Now, I want to give my best by coaching the young and budding stuff in the State,” she said.
Lauding her mentor Rachna Jamwal, a professional coach with Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council, Shreya said, “My coach deserves all kudos in my upbringing into the field. She (coach) guided me at every step and even when in trouble during my professional course, I used to get tips from her.”
She also thanked Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Fencing Association for supporting her and provding her platform to accomplish her goal.
Expert in Foil event, Shreya was also inspired by mother Veena Chib, a professional hockey coach.
The fencer also thanked father Parvesh Chib, a businessman, who she said, supported her in making career in sports.
