UDHAMPUR: District Jammu bagged the under-19 boys’ title trophy in the inter-district Divisional Volleyball Tournament which was organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at SIKS Government HSS Boys grounds, here.
In the final, Jammu defeated fighting district Poonch 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17). Semifinals: Jammu beat Ramban 2-0 (25-12, 25-18); Poonch beat Samba 2-0 (25-14, 25-17). Jaswinder Singh from winners Jammu district declared best player of the final.
Additional Superintendent of Police Udhampur, Anwar Ul Haq was the Chief Guest, who along with Guests of Honour, Shahid Nayeem DySP (DAR) and Anil Arora, Councillor presented the title trophies.
Speaking to the gathering, the chief guest advised the participants to play the game in a fair manner without any caste and creed. He laid stress on healthy life style while staying away from ‘drug menace’.
Earlier, district (DYSS) Officer Udhampur, Swaran Singh welcomed the chief guest and other distinguished gathering.
The final was officiated by technical officials including Manik Nargotra PEM (Ist referee), Sanjeev Verma (2nd referee) and Vicky Kumar (scorer).
Among others present were Poonam Sharma ZPEO Jib; Ajit Singh Incharge ZPEO Udhampur; Sham Lal Gupta, Jaswinder Singh, Ajay Sharma, Sanjeev Kumar, Kuldeep Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, Naveen Sharma, Surinder Gupta, Suresh Pal, Swarandeep Singh, Sourab Pandit, Somdev Khajuria, Romesh Chander, Anita Goswami, Jatin Sethi, Anshu Khanna, Vicky Sharma, Vipin Photra and Abdul Qadir.
