JAMMU: The district administration Jammu has taken a strong stance against drug trafficking and related offences as it has issued notices to 44 accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.
The measures are part of the ongoing decisive fight against drug menace in the district, spearheaded by District Magistrate Sachin Kumar Vaishya and Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Vinod Kumar. The accused have been given a chance to declare the source of income used to purchase their movable and immovable properties, which have been identified by different government agencies, including the police. They have to do so within 30 days, failing which the government has the right to forfeit such properties. The Executive Magistrate or the concerned police officer is empowered to identify such properties, which could have been acquired through drug trade and exchange. Such properties could also be in the custody of a relative or associate of the accused. The sources of income are verified through multilateral investigation and information.
