JAMMU: The Indian Air force (IAF) conducted over 250 sorties during J and K polls process. This was informed by Ministry of Defence Spokesperson Colonel S D Goswami here on Monday.
He said, “The fleet of IAF helicopters comprising Mi 17 V5, ALH and Cheetah were extensively used to ferry electoral staff, security forces and EVMs to far flung locations in J and K”.
“In J and K, helicopter operations involved operating from 25 helipads at altitudes varying from 6000 to 14000 Ft while in Jharkhand, the operations involved flying over naxal infested areas. Air effort carried out by the helicopter fleet of IAF in J and K is 250 sorties lifting 1246 passengers”, said Col Goswami, adding that during recently concluded Assembly elections in J and K, the IAF played a key role.
