International Yoga Day observed across State with great enthusiasm

JAMMU: Various educational institutions, Government departments, social organisations, NCC units on Tuesday celebrated 2nd International Yoga Day with vigour and enthusiasm.
J&K Branch of the NIRC of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, celebrated International Day of Yoga in association with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan Jammu at ICAI Bhawan, Canal Road, Jammu.
CA Vinay Saraf (Zonal President Gandhi Nagar Shastri Nagar) along with other trained yoga instructors from Bhartiya Yog Sansthan Jammu moderated the session, taught the importance of yoga in the modern day living and imparted useful yoga techniques to the Chartered Accountants and their family members.
Executive Committee members CA Ashwani Kumar Khajuria, CA Sudhir Kumar Arora, CA Ajay Kumar Gupta and CA Anish Abrol also practised yoga techniques with all the members.
Yoga Day was celebrated at Heritage Strings School of Rock by the kids who joined for the summer camp along with the instructors.
The fitness freak, Boomer Smiley Tanuja along with her students practiced some asanas of yoga to promote it among the youth, which was highly appreciated by the parents of the students.
Smiley said “To keep yourself ‘fit and fine’ in today’s busy- scheduled life style one must practice some Aasans of yoga like Bhujangasana also known as cobra pose, Savasana (Corpse Pose), Gomukhasana (Cow Face Pose), Bitilasana (Cow Pose) which not just makes your body flexible but also helps in digestion, improves immunity, you stay healthy, etc. The best time to do yoga is to do it early morning without eating anything.” Adding to it Anmol Amla, Director Heritage Strings School of Rock told the benefits of yoga for kids, men and women like in kids it develop body awareness, learn how to use their bodies in a healthy way, manage stress through breathing, awareness, meditation and healthy movements, build concentration and increases confidence. The yoga session ended with dance and aerobics fitness programme which is being conducted in their summer camp.
Cadets of NCC Directorate J&K participated in the ‘International Day of Yoga’ 2016.
The cadets performed Asanas a per the protocol given by Ministry of Ayush at various venues in the State. The performance of yoga by cadets was part of the, pan India event. Under the J and K NCC Directorate, 9,626 cadets participated at more than 15 venues.
Cadets braved inclement weather to reach the venues and continued the yoga protocol despite heavy rain at various places in the State.
International Yoga Day was celebrated across Power Grid Corporation of India Limted, Northern Region-II.
Several programmes were organised in all substations and other establishments of the Region through which benefits of yoga were illustrated to the employees and their family members. Yoga centres were established and special yoga camps were started in which experts trained the employees and their family members.
In one of the major programmes in this series, organised at its Regional Headquarters in Jammu, Powergrid Yoga Centre, Jammu was inaugurated by Member of Parliament Lok Sabha from Jammu -Poonch Constituency, Jugal Kishore in presence of Executive Director Northern Region-II, Anil Jain, President Shrishti Mahila Samiti, Anju Jain, senior officers from POWERGRID and their family members.
Jugal Kishore on this occasion praised Powergrid for its contribution in nation building. He appreciated the efforts of Powergrid Management for providing congenial and cordial working environment to its employees. He emphasised on the fact that yoga is a way of life and not only an exercise regime to keep onself fit. He said that yoga has brought charismatic changes to the lives of millions who practice it and has enabled them to live a pure and healthy life. He complimented Powergrid for bringing up a beautiful yoga centre for its employees within its township.
On this occasion special yoga session was organised wherein experts from Bhartiya Yog Sansthan imparted training to the participants.
Anil Jain announced that the yoga centre shall remain functional throughout the year and regular yoga classes shall be held through Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. He called upon the employees and their family members to take maximum benefit from these classes through regular attendance.
Welcome address was delivered by Ajay Holani, AGM (PESM) and vote of thanks presented by R. Narayan , Chief Manager (HR).
NHPC celebrated 2nd International Yoga Day by opening four yoga centres at office complexes Narwal, Trikuta Nagar, Government Higher Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar and Government Higher Secondary School, Domana in Jammu District.
Main celebration took place at NHPC Regional Office Jammu where Member of Parliament (RS), Shamsher Singh Manhas was the Chief Guest who inaugurated the Yoga Day and Vyayamshala.
Yoginder Kotha, Chief Engineer (Civil), R.K Kedia, Chief (HR) and senior officers of NHPC were present on the occasion.
Dr. Rajan Salalia, Hemu Karki from Art of Living performed the Common Yoga Protocol along with NHPC employees who were present in large numbers and made the programme livelier.
Similarly, in second Yoga Centre at Trikuta Nagar, S.N Tiwari, Senior Manager (Finance) NHPC Regional Office, Jammu inaugurated the Yoga Centre followed by Common Yoga Protocol.
At Gandhi Nagar and Domana Centres, the programme was inaugurated by Suresh Jamwal, Ex-Councillor ward No. 22 and Shamsher Singh Chib, Sarpanch- Domana Rural Halqa respectively. The programme started with prayer in meditative posture, performing of different yoga postures and ending the yoga practice session with a Sankalpa followed by Shanti Path.
The Chief Guest at Narwal greeted NHPC employees on International Yoga Day and asked them to adopt yoga as an integral part of life for their physical and mental well being. He said Yoga can help in overcoming the stress which is very much prevalent in modern times and it helps to promote health and peace of mind. He expressed hope that the atmosphere built in favour of yoga in the country will continue in future and the contribution of NHPC will go a long way in spreading the message of Yoga. He vehemently praised efforts put in by NHPC for spreading the message on the auspicious occasion for International Yoga Day.
Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust celebrated the International Yoga Day in collaboration with the Jammu Adventure Sports Club (JASC) in which 46 girls from classes 7th to 10th, belonging to rural and border areas of Jammu participated enthusiastically.
Nandan Kuthiala and Mala Broca members of the JASC joined the residential academic camp. Kunil Bhalla, Managing Trustee was also present with the other members.
Sham Lal Gupta a prominent resident of Jammu led the session with Pranayam followed by other asanas. He also shared the benefits of yoga, which need to be incorporated into our daily lives. Yoga increases flexibility and helps in maintaining a balanced metabolism. The young girls also shared their understanding of yoga in three different languages- Hindi, English and Dogri.
Kunil Bhalla, Managing Trustee concluded the occasion and emphasised the importance of good spiritual health which leads to good physical and emotional health, a necessity in todays age of consumerism.
BSF celebrated the International Yoga Day at Frontier HQ BSF Jammu from 7:00 to 8:00 AM.
D.K Upadhyaya, IG BSF wished all ranks and their families a happy International Yoga Day. He said that yoga is both an art as well as a science and free insurance of good health and enhance peace and prosperity. He expressed his happiness that many BSF persons have been practicing yoga from long time.
On this occasion, yoga teachers from Patanjali Yog Pitth, Jammu were especially invited to teach yoga to BSF personnel as per the Common Yoga Protocol issued by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
Despite heavy rains large number of officers, subordinate officers and other ranks took active part with full enthusiasm in the yoga day celebration. The day was also celebrated by all BSF Sector HQrs, Battalion HQrs ,STC Udhampur and Border Out Posts in Jammu.
Highlighting role of Yoga in maintaining fine balance between body and mind, Vice-President, BJP Yudhvir Sethi said that the age old Indian technique of Yoga is not merely a physical exercise but is helps in maintaining a fine balance between human body and mind.
Yudhvir was speaking at the Special Yoga Day Camp organised as part of International Yoga Day celebrations by Aaradhaya Yog Trust at Peer Kho Park Jammu in which over 300 yoga enthusiasts participated the camp.
Yudhvir was Chief Guest on the occasion and Ajay Vaid State Vice President BJYM J and K was the Guest of Honour. The yoga camp was organised under the patronage of Mahant Ravi Dass Ji.
Among others the camp was attended by Vipan Nischal, Chairman Aaradhaya Yog Trust, Chetan Sharma President Aaradhaya Yog Trust, Satish Sharma and Rinku.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, around 750 NCC cadets performed synchronized Yoga in Nagrota Camping Ground. A 15 days capsule of yoga training was also carried out for the NCC cadets in camp by Art of Living Organisation. The cadets took active participation in the discipline.
Brigadier A.K Verma of J and K Directorate NCC and Lt Col Monisha SRS of 2 J&K Battalion (Boys) NCC and other army personnel also participated in the Yoga.
International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Salal Power Station, Jyotipuram with zeal and enthusiasm.
On the occasion, A.G Ansari, General Manager, Salal Power Station and Ishrat Nasreen Ansari, and Sri Prakash, Chief Enginer (Civil) and Navdeep Singh, Commandent CISF, other senior officers, employees, ladies from NHPC family in large number and CISF personnel participated in the yoga session at Jyotipuram. Thereafter, Ansari inaugurated fur yoga centres, one at Main Bazar, Reasi and three at Jyotipuram whereas one centre located at Village Mari, Reasi was inaugurated by Maheshwar Singh, Sarpanch Mari – B.
Pertinent to mention that on the occasion of second International Day of Yoga, Salal Power Station of NHPC Limited set up five Yoga and Vayayamshala Kendras, permanent in nature and duly equipped with all the modern facilities like LED TV, DVD, fans, LED bulbs, dumble set, gym bench, rods, yoga mats besides fixing looking glass on two walls of the centre.
Speaking on the occasion, Ansari appealed to all present in various centres to perform yoga in routine as a matter of habit for deriving maximum benefit of these centres. At times, when every body is extremely busy and leading a life under constant stress, yoga becomes need of the hour. He further apprised the gathering about the benefits of yoga like ‘helps one stay flexible and healthy, helps one loose weight or even maintain weight, works wonders in stress management and above all provides a stable mind’.
International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm at IGNOU Regional Centre, Jammu. Shreyanshu Kumar Jain, the internationally famous Yoga Guru and Professor of Yoga associated with University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

from Bharti Yog Sansthan was the Guest of Honour. Er. K.K Bhat, Regional Director, welcomed the chief guest, guest of honour and participants. Dr. S.K Jain made the gathering aware about importance of making yoga the way of life. He explained how the yoga symbolises the union of body and conscience. Dr. Suresh Gupta demonstrated different yog Asanas and Mudras.
Students from Shri Ved Mandir Bal Niketan School participated in the painting competition on the subject of Yoga. Prizes were distributed among the winners. Tejinder Pal Singh, Assistant Registrar, tendered vote of thanks. Programme ended with National Anthem.
Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu commemorated the programme in the college auditorium.
Principal, Dr. Renu Goswami, emphasised the importance of yoga in today’s exhausted life. She appealed the students to make yoga as an integral part of their routine activities for a healthier life as the onus of creating a strong nation depends on them.
The students, staff and the principal performed some basic Asanas to mark the celebration.
Likewise, the event was celebrated in Central Jail Jammu Kot Bhalwal where the Jail Inmates, staff, CRPF staff, officers and officials participated in the programme.
The event was organised under the supervision of Director General of Police, Prisons J and K Dr. S. P. Vaid.
Senior Superintendent Jail Dinesh Sharma , Jail Inmates and staff participated in the programme.
SRINAGAR: Like other parts of the globe, International Yoga Day was also celebrated in Srinagar with lot of enthusiasm and fanfare.
The main function was organized at
Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Stadium here by the Nehru Yuva Kendra in collaboration with the Department of AYUSH, J and K,
Department of Youth Services and Sports and Social Organisation Art of Living, J and K Branch.
Secretary Health and Medical Education, Dr. M.K. Bhandari was Chief Guest, while Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Arunima Sinha, STC, Art of Living (AOL) J and K Branch, Deputy Director AYUSH, Dr. Ashiq Hussain, functionaries of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, J and K, Department of Youth Services and Sports and large number of doctors, students and Yoga lovers, including men and women participated in the event.
Arunima Sinha on the occasion enriched the participants with the benefits of this ancient Indian traditional art of living.
Dr. Bhandari expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants for making this global event a success.
Government College of Physical Education (COPE) in collaboration with Department of Indian System of Medicines and Homeopath (AYUSH) celebrated International Day of Yoga 2016 at Madr-i-Meharban Sports Stadium here today. The program witnessed participation of more than two hundred students studying in COPE for BP Ed and MP Ed courses along with the faculty members including the College Principal, Dr. Hartej Singh, Prof Mushtaq, Prof. Showkat and others. Doctors from AYUSH including DNO Ganderbal, Dr. Mushtaq along with his doctors and para medical staff also took part in the yoga exercise and the participants practiced various yoga asans.
Faculty member at COPE, Irfan Hussain guided and instructed yoga practices.
Principal COPE, Dr. Hartej Singh emphasised on to adopt practice of yoga in daily life so as to gain health benefit offered by yoga like all round fitness, stress relief, improved immunity, better flexibility and better body posture.
Another mega yoga session was organised at Air Force Station (AFS), Srinagar by AOC Air Commodore Manoj Marathe and CAO Group Captain Vinod Mallik, in which over 3,500 people participated. The yoga session was conducted by Chief Electoral Officer, Shantmanu and Suyash, an AOL Volunteer. Similarly, a yoga camp was also organised at village Watakuloo, Chararisharief in which AOL teacher, Mohammad Yaqoob, resident of Badipora conducted the proceedings of yoga.
Government Higher Secondary School, Muthi Jammu, celebrated International Yoga Day in which 500 NCC Cadets along with the students of school performed yoga. The yoga was performed under the command of Associate NCC Officer, Sohan Singh.
Principal of the School, Geetu Bangotra along with staff members and locals of the area joined the programme.
A Yog Shiver was organised by the Patanjali Yoga, Shastri Nagar unit to mark the occasion of International Yoga Day. Dr N.K Sharma gave tips on various Yoga Aasans and performed Yoga exercises with the participants. Raj Kumar Gupta and Prof Uma Sharma explained in detail about Pranayam. In addition to this, an acupressure Shiver was also organized by Dr Ankur Gupta, MD (AQ).
