International Day against Drug Abuse celebrated

SRINAGAR: Police Drug De-addiction Services, PCR Kashmir celebrated International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with the theme ‘Listen First’ at Crescent Public School Naseem Bagh, Srinagar.
Starting the programme, Principal Crescent Public School, K.M Lone gave introduction about the programme and welcomed the Chief Guest SP Hazratbal, Naveed Peerzada and other dignitaries on the occasion. He briefed participants about being aware of drug abuse. He also stressed upon role of youth as future of any society and why there is a need that our youth should be physically and mentally healthy.
Naveed Peerzada discussed drug abuse among youth as a burning issue and said that drug abuse starts with small things in adolescents. He emphasized on the role of youth and how it is the responsibility of every one to keep our society free from all social evils including drug menace.
Director DDC Dr Mohammad Muzaffar Khan elaborated role of different professionals for safeguarding society from drug abuse and elaborated on the theme of year 2016 Listen First. He stressed upon that we should not be judgmental and biased about a person with drug abuse problem. He said it is the need of hour to provide treatment and rehabilitation to all those patients with drug abuse problem. He also stressed upon the involvement of parents for quality monitoring especially when children have an easy access to internet.
Medical Officer, Dr. Shabir ur Rehman highlighted health consequences of drug abuse and the treatment facilities being provided at Drug De Addiction Centre PCR Kashmir. An interactive session was also held on the theme of International Day for Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2016 Listen First, in which Dr Mohammad Muzaffar said that a person who is suffering from drug addiction should be given a patient listening in order to help him to come out of this disease. Listen to him with dignity, respect, empathy, privacy and confidentiality.
In the concluding session, Principal Crescent Public School, Lone thanked the chief guest and staff of the Drug De-Addiction Centre for conducting such programmes.
