Inter-state gang of burglars unearthed; 4 arrested

JAMMU: To get first-hand knowledge on how to break locks in a jiffy with the help of a screwdriver, Jammu Police on Tuesday asked a burglar to demonstrate his extraordinary skill although for a bad cause. The showcasing of this strange proficiency by the burglar arrested along with three more on Monday amazed everybody present at the media briefing organised by SSP Jammu Uttam Chand here on Tuesday.
Interestingly, two among these four burglars were nabbed by the police as they missed their train due to excess intake of Blender’s Pride whisky, which they robbed of from a house located in Channi Himmat on Friday. With the arrest of these burglars, the Jammu police have claimed to solve seven cases of burglaries. The SSP Jammu during a press conference disclosed that one Kulbhushan Khanna, son of Purja Dass Khanna, resident of Channi Himmat, Jammu lodged a complaint in Police Station Channi Himmat that some burglars broke open his house on 29th May, 2015 and decamped with gold ornaments and diamond jewellery worth over Rs 20 lakh when he was away at his shop.
He said that a case FIR 52/15 under Sections 454 and 380 RPC was registered and investigation started. The police nabbed two notorious criminals namely Hari Parshad, son of Mohan and Raj Kumar Kuttay, son of Kanhi Lal both residents of Chhattisgarh from Jammu Railway Station and started investigation. On their disclosure, the police arrested two more burglars namely Basant Kumar, son of Jai Krishan, resident of Chhattisgarh and Noor Mohammad, son of Mohammad Salem, resident of Bus Adda Meerut from Delhi.
“On their disclosure the police recovered gold ornaments, diamond jewellery and antique items worth over Rs 20 lakh and solved the case within three days”, the SSP said adding that the stolen items were kept by the accused in a septic tank of under-construction building. The assistance of a minor boy was taken to retrieve these items from a deep tank.
He told that burglars had a unique type of expertise in break opening any type of lock within seconds. During a demonstration one of the burglar who appeared to be a juvenile but was of the age, broke open three strong locks within few seconds. The burglars admitted to have committed many more burglaries and their modus operandi was that they first recce the area and look for a locked house to strike during the day time. After decamping with stolen goods they sell the same at Meerut and Delhi.
SSP further said that during questioning their involvement in Case FIRs 37/14, 51/14, 52/14, 60/14, 29/15 and 30/15 under Sections 354 and 380 was also established due to which six more cases have been worked out in Sub Division East under SP South Udhay Baskar Billa, SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SHO Chhanni Himmat Aejaz Wani and SI Susheel Choudhary.
According to SSP the investigation is going on and more arrests and recoveries are likely to be expected.
